SCHOOL IMPACT
HIGHLIGHT
Florence Elementary | Texas
For Principal Jacque Hughes, the success of Florence Elementary’s annual Boosterthon Fun Run
was both professional and personal this year.
It was the school’s third year working with Boosterthon, Principal Jacque Hughes knew this year
would have unique challenges. “We were building a new school,” she said. “So we were more
limited on space and how to make the activities work.”
The Boosterthon team set in motion a flexible plan to ensure they addressed logistical concerns,
while also meeting Principal Hughes’ desire to protect students’ learning time. “They always
meet those expectations,” she said. “They listen; they’re available; and they care.”
But then the unthinkable happened during the week’s activities when Principal Hughes received
word her mother was facing a medical crisis. The team’s care shined as they worked to make
the fundraiser a success even in Principal Hughes absence and sent flowers and a note to let
her know they were thinking of her while she was away caring for her mother.
“Boosterthon was so kind to me. The team showed me they are not just here for the kids or
making money. They want to make a difference in the lives of all the people they serve,” said
Principal Hughes.
Ultimately, the Boosterthon team created a week of exciting activities for students and
teachers, culminating in a school-wide Fun Run. Thanks to the immense support from families
and the community, the school profited $43,000, which will be used to fund seating at their
outdoor art garden.
